To use as a spirit level you must rest the narrow sides against the surface.

To use as a horizontal pointer rotate the pins on each end, so  that they protrude outwards and perpendicular to the levels length.

Fold the hinge containing the mirror outwards so it makes an angle of about 45 degrees to the instrument.

Use the two pins as sights to determine a point that is horizontal. They should site horizontally when the bubble edge is adjacent the red mark. The mirror should reflect an image of this which you have to observe while looking
along the sites.

When the device is used as a spirit level, rotate pins around in the opposite direction so they are out of the way. Fold the mirror inwards flat against the timber.
